About

Phonetic Beats was founded in 2019 in the living room of a small run-down apartment near Dallas, Texas. The aim of Phonetic Beats is to encourage phonetic literacy in all small children regardless of learning disabilities, through trap music. The business launched with its first album, Phonetic Beats Volume 1: Letters A-M in the summer of 2019. Since the release, Phonetic Beats has gone on to launch a second album Phonetic Beats Volume 2: Letters N-Z. In the Summer of 2021, Phonetic Beats will have a corresponding workbook, an Activity Book, a book, and a DVD! Phonetic Beats has only come to life because of our tribe of supporters like you who keep us going every day. Thank you so much for your support!

My name is Faith Rodgers and I am the Founder and CEO of Phonetic Beats! I am also an elementary music educator of 9 years, as well as a mom to my 5-year-old son, Steven. When Steven was 2 years old I realized that something was off with his speech. He wasn’t talking at all yet and I began to worry. I took him in for a speech evaluation and sure enough, it was determined that he had a severe speech and language delay. My world was turned upside down because even though I taught some students with speech delays, I knew nothing about how to help him. Luckily there are Speech-Language Pathologists who are always here to save the day!

One day I decided to make a rap song to teach him the letter A. To my surprise, he actually tried to sing along! I casually posted it on my Facebook wall and to my surprise, it went VIRAL! It was on that day the idea of Phonetic Beats was born. That was over 3 years ago and it has taken all of this time to make Phonetic Beats into what it is today. Between being going through a divorce, having to navigate raising a child in a single-parent household, going to graduate school full time, and working full-time. it has been a rough road! Oh, and don’t forget to throw a pandemic in there! Through prayer, hard work, and perseverance, Phonetic Beats is here to help all children around the world achieve phonetic literacy.

Meresha Perkins is Phonetic Beats’ Pre-K Specialist. Meresha has been teaching for over 13 years and loves every bit of it. She has spent a majority of her teaching career in kindergarten and pre-k. Even though she has experience in upper grades, she truly enjoys teaching early childhood the most. Meresha loves being the foundation of her students’ learning. She is very excited for the upcoming school year as she’ll be leaving the classroom to serve as the Social Emotional Learning Specialist on her pre-k campus!

Meresha is also a mom to her 10 year old daughter, Ziara. She is single handedly responsible for the Phonetic Beats A-Z Workbook and also double checking everything I do to make sure it follows the public school Pre-K curriculum to the T! Momming and teaching have kept her hands full but Phonetic Beats would not be complete without her.
